What to do?

Southwestern Colorado is celebrated as one of the top vacation destinations in our country! It's no wonder as to why. Folks hail from all over the world to visit local gems like the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, USENECO heritage site Mesa Verde National Park, and the Weminuche Wilderness. But between us- a day spent kayaking the lake is equally glorious!

Our little corner of the country is home to charming communities, dramatic landscapes, and sweeping history. Vallecito, Bayfield, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Mancos, and Pagosa each have unique stories and experiences to share with visitors. Need more help in planning your visit? Cultural History

Southwestern Colorado holds complicated, beautiful history. Please remember as a visitor this region is sacred and homeland to tribes and Indigenous people today.

Mesa Verde, Canyon of the Ancients, and Chimney Rock are just a few of this area's cultural sites. Wild west heritage is stored in our historic downtowns, mining sites, railways, and agricultural communities.

Events & Activities

Check out the Durango calendar to find unique, daily events. Telluride music festivals are world renowned, varying widely in genre! For a taste of local music, go to a free Thursday night concert in Buckley Park. If you are here June 19th-20th, Mancos' Burro Fest is not to be missed! Check out this google maps folder for even more ideas during your visit.

Food & Dining

We have to name a few favorite spots... Coffee? 81301, Fahrenheit Roasters, & Bread Bakery. Breakfast? College Cafe!!! Vallecito Country Market makes a great huevos. Saturday morning farmers markets in Durango & bayfield. For casual lunch and dinner, James Ranch, Zia Taqueria, and Fired Up are all great options. Turtle Lake Refuge Cafe is a wild weed based, raw-vegan menu (Tues & Thurs only). In the mood for fine dining? Check out The Boathouse, Highway 3, or Eolus. Family Friendly

This is an incredible area to visit with little ones! We recommend the Animas River trail, Powerhouse Science Center, public libraries, community rec-centers, Ouray hot springs, and farmers markets.

Pro tip: double up on sun protection, water, and snacks. Altitude and harsh sun exposure can wipe kiddos out!

Outdoor Galore

Biking, climbing, rock-climbing, rafting, horseback riding and more- our region has an activity for everyone! Discover Durango trails here or explore the Weminuche Wilderness. We recommend reading this guide to keep yourself, others, and wild spaces safe on adventures. Looking for something more relaxed? Enjoy a drive through the world-renowned San Juan Skyway!

Vibrant Vallecito

Vallecito marina offers boat rentals and fishing licenses, all while staying close to your cabin! We offer guests free use of paddle boards, kayaks, and life jackets. There are plenty of trails in Vallecito, ranging from mild to strenuous. One of our favorites is the Vallecito Creek Trail, conveniently located at the north end of the lake.
